Sports/Football Coaching Volunteer Program in Ghana

Football coaching brings people together and help build strong communities. Volunteers will be helping in the football clubs and associations in all aspects of football training from setting up drills and fitness sessions, to coaching sports teams.

This project is a good chance for volunteers who are looking to improve their skills and ability as well as helping unprivileged rural and semi-rural children to develop their talents. Volunteers will be assisted by local coaches for any help may need.

The football coaching volunteer program gives unprivileged children a chance to build their football skills, which can continue to support and empower their future football career and skills, but also engage with local community and support their development through different activities such as inter-school leagues, health and sport empowerment and other sports competitions.

Volunteers on the football coaching program can support coaches while training and amplify physical and mental benefits that regular exercise provides. Besides, the physical improvement, there are many inherent life skills to be taught, such as the importance to f teamwork, communication and discipline.

SMWEF works with a variety of schools and youth clubs who are looking for sports volunteers. You will act as a football coach during school and a coach for the team after school. You may also need to run a tournament that is held with a multitude of participating schools. Volunteers on sports/football coaching will combine coaching with English instruction and other useful skills to provide a wide range of experiences for children.

This football program does not require any previous experience; however, any related skills are helpful.

Typical day

This football coaching program starts after local school.

Volunteers help is needed at the afternoon. 7:00am - 7:30am breakfast at the volunteer accommodation
8:00am volunteers help teach basics English and Mathematics in school
2:00pm - 3:00pm free time and volunteers can choose to be with other volunteers in the volunteer accommodation
3:30pm-4:00pm volunteers prepare for football training
4:00pm-6:00pm volunteers start training
6:00pm - 7:00pm volunteers have dinner at the accommodation

Free time activities

Volunteers are free to make travel arrangements once in Ghana as our local team is always happy to provide assistance.

Volunteers can fill their free time in Ghana visiting the many historical sites, beautiful beaches, dining at incredible food providers, or even taking a day trip to Cape Coast or Accra to learn more about the country's history of slave trade by visiting the castles and museums in the area!
