The Study of Reef Fishes Summer Course in Bermuda!

Program Description

The Ecology and Evolution of Reef Fishes course runs from July 6 - July 24, 2015

The Ecology and Evolution of Reef Fishes course introduces participants to the ecology, behavior, and biology of reef fish. Located on the most northerly coral reef system in the Atlantic, Bermuda is home to a diverse and healthy assemblage of reef fishes and is an ideal location to study these awe-inspiring creatures.

Students learn fish anatomy and scientific classification on shore, and then apply their new skills out in the field as they identify and analyze the behavior of common reef fish. In the chaotic world of a coral reef, students study how different kinds of fish win mates, escape predators, find food, and provide their offspring with a shot at life on the reef.

This three-week intensive field course examines the ecology and evolution of tropical fishes on the spectacular coral reefs of Bermuda. In the lab students use DNA to identify larval fish and become familiar with molecular research methods.
