Program Description
Join us as a volunteer and work directly with local street children as you teach, organize games, promote healthy hygiene, and serve as a role model and support system. You will be placed in Ghana as you tackle a challenging, but rewarding, volunteer opportunity. While this can be an exhausting task, you are making a huge difference in their lives.
While Ghana has a social welfare system in place, it is overwhelmed by the number of street children and orphans. While there are centers for children, these are plagued by inadequate resources and staff are often unable to educate, clothe, and feed the children. Street youths face neglect, child labor, and physical abuse. Their only means of survival is by engaging in criminal activities which often leads to substance abuse.
MyGapYear is affiliated with excellent program on the ground to provide these children with valuable life skills, care, and support.
