The Irish Side of Downton Abbey
Dr. Gill Hunter: Eastern Kentucky University
If you understand the complicated feelings people have about Downton Abbey’s Crawley family, you need to explore the Big Houses of Ireland. For almost 200 years in Ireland, the wealthiest of the English controlled land, and the Irish who worked the fields and lived under the landowners’ control barely made a living.
