English as a Second Language

Our ESL programme is as exciting as it is educational. Each English course is offered as a full-time intensive programme for beginners, intermediate or advanced learners of English. The courses are run throughout the year to provide support for students who want to achieve appropriate levels of proficiency in English for entry into degree programmes. The courses are also very useful for international students who want to improve their English for personal, vocational and professional development. Classes may be as short as 9-weeks or as long as a year.

The emphasis is on developing communicative skills and aims at helping students to achieve fluency. Students will benefit from the English experience in the classroom; while outside of the classrooom, students will have opportunities to practise English skills as they mingle with Jamaican nationals and participate in the local culture by visiting theatres, museums, parks, historical sites within proximity of UCC's main campus.
