Certificate and Diploma in Communicative Japanese

The Diploma in Communicative Japanese programme at SOAS Language Centre in London is developed to prepare students with no previous know-how of Japanese to live and function in a Japanese-speaking environment.

The programme is based on the communicative approach to teaching Japanese and develops the abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Pupils will also learn how to activate grammatical patterns as well as obtaining a wide range of vocabulary, which they can use to express their meanings properly and appropriately. The programme is continually adapted to pupils' requirements and so the pattern of learning activities differs from session to session

A pupil granted the Diploma will have the ability to communicate effectively in Japanese in a wide range of professional and also social situations and also be able to read as well as write Japanese of substantial complexity, ranging across a variety of subjects. S/he will have an assured command of the grammar and vocabulary of the language and also have the ability to participate confidently in conversations that cover more sophisticated topics.

A pupil awarded the Certificate will have the ability to communicate efficiently in Japanese in a limited variety of situations and be able to read and write basic Japanese with ease. S/he will have a good command of the language used in survival scenarios, social chats, everyday transactions, discussions of current affairs and also in various job-related contexts.
