Job Description

In the Office of Construction Administration, acts as staff specialist pertaining to erosion sedimentation control & environmental compliance (i.e., develops & evaluates plans & criteria for variety of projects & activities to be carried out by others; assesses feasibility & soundness of proposed engineering designs, evaluation tests, products or equipment when necessary data is insufficient or confirmation by testing is advisable;

Directs engineering/technical activities on behalf of supervisor & to plan & coordinate work; assists in development of section policy &/or long-range planning; advises offices, consulting firms, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), local public agencies (LPAs)

Operates state vehicle to travel to & inspect active construction projects. Implements a quality assurance program of active construction projects & provides compliance direction to contractors & project staff.

Prepares & reviews Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans using Computer Aided Drafting & Design (i.e. CADD) & drafting equipment.

Updates design standards & contract language for improving program compliance while increasing efficiency & quality.

Reviews hydrologic & hydraulic engineering studies & reports. Reviews shop drawings & project submittals.

Recommends development &/or revisions to policies, standards & specifications & directives based on field audit review findings.

Provides technical construction administration advice, administers activities on behalf of supervisor, & prepares instructional memorandums.

Implements, evaluates & interprets standards & specifications on ODOT construction projects for miscellaneous construction pertaining to items including structure removal, protective fence, dust control, vegetation establishment, & various roadside items & provides statewide summary reports.

Works with department¿s design & research engineers in developing proposed uses of new materials & new techniques for improved cost-effective construction; directs or participates in research team which develops methodology to test new materials or engineering techniques in area of specialization.

Requirements

Licensed as registered professional engineer by Ohio State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors; 12 mos. exp. as Transportation Engineer 2, 85642; if assigned to operate a state vehicle to travel to & inspect project sites, must possess valid driver’s license.
