Chicago is the third most populous city in the United States, after New York City and Los Angeles. Chicago is the third largest economic hub in the US, generating $532 billion in gross metropolitan product. Chicago is also home to the Chicago Stock Exchange, Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, and Chase Bank’s headquarters. There is also a vibrant performing arts environment, as Chicago plays home to many performing arts centers and troupes. The city is also a major media hub and hosts the Chicago International Film Festival yearly.

Major institutions include  The University of Chicago; Northwestern University; Loyola University Chicago; Illinois Institute of Technology; DePaul University; and University of Illinois at Chicago, which are all consistently ranked in the top universities in the US and the world according to the US News & World report.
