Mesa has some 40 miles of bike lanes and the city is just plain bike crazy. Whether you're getting around the city center, or venturing further into the desert or mountain areas, there is often a bike track that will get you to your destination. Combined with the city's bike-friendly public transport system, this is by far the most economical way to get around the city.

Join one of many Saturday morning bike rides that the bike hire stores hold, and see the city how the locals do. You can hire quality bikes for either $65 a day or from $385 per week.

Sharing its bigger city cousin's public transport system, Mesa and Phoenix have an economical light rail and bus ticketing system. Metro transport tickets cost $4 for all day riding, which can be a combination of rail and bus. Alternatively if working in the city or staying for a longer period, or consider purchasing the 31-day pass for $64.

Centered around Downtown Mesa but mostly on E Main Street. The sculptures are just a taste of Mesa's thriving arts scene, so make sure you visit the Mesa Arts Centre to find out what's happening while you're visiting the area.

When you're ready for a bit more action, ride a horse from in the Tonto National Forest and take in the views across Saguaro Lake and Goldfield Mountain. Or if you're trying to beat the heat, get wet and wild at the Mesa Golfland SunSplash waterpark.
