  3. Do you really Need Surge Protector RV?

If you are new to owning an RV, you may be surprised at just how many accessories, gadgets, and gizmos there are that you can invest in to make things easier while you are on the road. While some are more obvious than others, especially those that you are already familiar with, there are others that you may be unfamiliar with such as surge protectors, that it's not quite as obvious whether you really need them or not.

Surge protectors are what we are going to discuss in this post. Before we suggest whether you should invest in them or not, we will first tackle the subject of what they actually are and how they work.

What is a Surge Protector and How does it Work?

Basically, a surge protector is a device or appliance that is designed to provide protection for electric devices against voltage spikes. When there is either a drop in electricity or a surge, the protector starts to work and protect your RV's electrical system and crucial components from damage.

Surge protectors are also able to assess and check an incoming source of power for any signs of a missing ground, reverse neutral and line, overcurrent, and lone voltage errors.

Surge protectors are connected to the power source outlet and then you plug your RV cable into it, and it functions as a safety buffer.

Why Do You Need One?

As you may have guessed, the main reason for investing in a surge protector is protection. Remember, if you own your RV, you took time and when to a lot of effort to research and find the right one for you. You have undoubtedly spent a lot of time and money kitting it out. As a result of this, it would be a shame for anything terrible to happen to it.

Therefore, you will want to do all you can to protect your investment, because that's exactly how you should see an RV. Yes, it's a vehicle, but it's so much more. Do you have a lock on the door of your RV? You likely have. That is how you should see the decision about whether you should or should not invest in a surge protector. Even if you think you are not going to have a stranger try to get into your home and either do something to you or those traveling with you or steal from you, you would not (and should not) go on the road without a lock.

The same is true with buying a surge protector. You won't be able to say, either way, with any real certainty, if you are going to experience an extreme power surge or power drop when you connect it up to a site's electric hook-up. All you know is that it is possible. Which is more than enough reason, we believe, for you to pay out the relatively small investment in a surge protector.

As well as protecting your RV's electrical systems, surge protectors also play a crucial part in protecting anything connected to your RV like your refrigerator, air conditioning system, television and so much more.

So, to answer the question posed at the outset and in the title of this post, regarding whether you need a surge protector or not. Yes, you do. At least, if you don't fancy paying for a new electrical system and new appliances any time there is a power surge or drop. Remember, not all surge protectors are made equal, so don't just pick the first one you come across when you are choosing one.
