Bhutan Tour

Program Description

The Kingdom of Bhutan is a small gem that lies between China in the north and India in the south. It resides in eastern Himalayas and covers an area around the size of Switzerland. This country boasts majestic mountains and a small flat region around the foothills in the south. We border Assam and West Bengal, Indian states, to the south, Arunachal Pradesh, and Tibet, TAR, in the north.

Bhutanese locals often place images of tigers, dragons, birds, and other animals on the outside of their shops and houses as decoration. A decorative penis is one of the most common themes, since these images are thought to serve as protection. There are often mirrored images of phalluses and there are samples from the phallic art that are encountered in this country.

Program highlights

Traveling within Bhutan

There are good road networks that connect major towns and tourist sites in spite of the mountainous terrain. There are numerous bends and curves as well as steep descents and ascents. These all combine to slow travel, with tourist buses going below 40 kilometers per hour. While keeping you safe, you will also have the opportunity to view the mountains, ancient villages, verdant jungles, and towering monasteries, and temples as well as tasty roadside eateries.

While the roads are paved, they can still be a little bumpy since these are narrow and often single lanes. However, locals know these roads well and are very careful.

Restricted area (Route) Permit

Thimphu and Paro are permit-free travel areas. If you are interested in venturing beyond these zones, then you must go to the immigration office in Thimphu to get a route permit. Tourists who travel with our tour operators are able to have the permit issued along with the visa.

Special Permit

There are restricted areas even though many religious sites allow tourists. You may visit restricted areas with a special permit.
