Program Description
International Service has been operating for over 60 years to fight poverty through the use of volunteers. We work to safeguard the rights of marginalised groups in developing nations including children, women, disabled populations, and those living with HIV/AIDS.
This is a government-funded service that provides young adults between ages 18-25 the chance to volunteer with the International Citizen Service scheme. Volunteers will be placed in Burkina Faso Ghana, Bolivia, or occupied Palestinian territory for 11 weeks.
There are positions currently open for departures in September 2014, although you can also look into opportunities launching in January or April.
We feature a wide variety of placements and positions to suit all background and interests. Volunteers will be able to use skills and abilities to change the course of the lives of locals.
This program does not require any particular qualifications or experience and is open to volunteers from all backgrounds. This is a completely free opportunities that is funded through the Department for International Development. While we invite participants to conduct fundraising drives prior to the trip, we will support these efforts.
You will be able to work with volunteers from all countries worldwide as you band together to fight poverty. You will also be able to grow essential skills such as leadership, clear communication, and teamwork.

Program highlights
"The opportunity of working alongside HSB [ICS Project], seeing the work they do for people living with disabilities and the impact they have on the local community is truly inspiring and I will never forget the things I have learnt and experienced. Being on a placement in Burkina Faso, living in a new environment and working alongside national volunteers and the local people, has been an entirely new but amazing experience for me! It has enabled me to gain an insight into a different culture and way of life, with the different values of society and their sense of community, which I found to be especially interesting and had an unexpected, yet positive, impact on my personal beliefs and values. This experience has made me more determined to experience new cultures in the future and I hope to return to Burkina Faso and visit HSB in the future!"
