Program Description
South Africa is a country famous for its cosmopolitan cities, lush vineyards, stunning wildlife and extensive coastline. Although South Africa had a difficult past, this created a great victory with the end of apartheid. Gold and wine are its largest exports, and as a former Dutch colony, it offers an intriguing mix of traditional South African as well as European culture and cuisine. While South Africa has a strong economy and well-developed infrastructure that make it unique among African countries, the country is still working to recover after its troubled history of apartheid.
While volunteering in South Africa, you will play an important role in supporting educational initiatives. Volunteering as a coach and mentor for at-risk youth and working at an orphanage are just a couple of ways you can make a difference.
United Planet partners with International Cultural Youth Exchange (ICYE) for long-term programs. As a volunteer, you will be hosted by Volunteer Centre, which is ICYE’s South Africa partner organization.
