Volunteer in Community Education

Volunteers with be placed in poverty-stricken areas of San Ramon, Costa Rica in order to provide support to children. This project of Community Education is determined to aid underprivileged children by providing community support and opportunities for education. In the mornings, the center is a daycare center and it serves as a community center and after school safe space in the afternoons and evenings. Volunteers are required to help support the educational endeavors of students and to look after and care for them.

Many of the children who come to the center have issues with reading. Illiteracy is high among the parents and we emphasize helping children with reading and homework. Volunteers will help with instructing social studies, science, math, reading comprehension, reading fluency, and pre-reading.

Volunteers should be adaptable and motivated as well as creatively able to engage with the children through games and sharing knowledge.

Responsibilities:

* Assisting with reading instruction
* Acting as tutor to help children with their homework
* Assisting the children as they study for exams in school
* Playing games and initiating sports matches with the kids
* Keeping a watchful eye over the children at the playground
* Finding engaging activities for the children
