Volunteer at a Medical urban health center

Program Description

In Guatemala, there exists a network of public health services, free of charge. In Quetzaltenango, there is a medical health center, where local inhabitants from the city or surrounding communities can obtain free health service.
They offer basic health care like doctor’s consults and baby´s vaccinations, and growth monitoring. The health posts only work with daily consults, they don´t receive overnight patients.

Volunteers are always needed at the health posts. Volunteers often work:
- Vaccination room (vaccinating babies), checking their height & weight
- The family planning clinic, doing consultations and giving injections
- HIV clinic, testing women and do frequent consultations
Volunteers have the opportunity to rotate in the different clinics if your skills allow this. Also, if you have experience in specific fields like psychology, lab work, dentistry or physical therapy, you can work in those clinics.

Program highlights

Most help is needed in the mornings, so it's perfect to combine your volunteering with Spanish lessons in the afternoons, which is a nice way to improve your Spanish but also learn about the Guatemalan culture.

On the weekends we can organize nice trips to surrounding sites
