Volunteer at a Animal Care / Zoo

Program Description

The zoo in Xela is a municipal institution where they receive about 500.000 visitors yearly. The zoo has 200 animals of 41 magnificent species. Many of the visitors are schoolchildren coming for a school trip to learn about the animals, but also regular visitors come to the zoo. The zoo is currently going through renovations, improving and increasing the animal species.

The volunteer has the possibility to work in different areas:
- Working directly with the veterinarian, making daily round, administer medication, vitamins & create a healthy environment for the animals
- Preparing the food & feeding the animals
- Assist tours & conferences for groups (mostly schoolchildren)
- If you have experience in the health sector; they can learn you how to apply injected & oral vaccinations to the animals.

In this project, you can choose to work in the mornings or full days, so it's perfect to combine your volunteering with Spanish lessons in the afternoons, which is a nice way to improve your Spanish but also learn about the Guatemalan culture.
