Turtle Conservation on a Pristine White Sand Island

Program Description

At our camp on Pom Pom island, there are lots of Turtles which nest in large numbers from May to September. We do turtle patrols and snorkels to protect adult and baby turtles on a pristine white sand beach on tropical Pom Pom island offshore from Sabah, Malaysia. We do evening patrols around the island to find nesting females so that the eggs can be removed to the hatchery. The turtles are usually tagged and measured as part of a long term study of turtle populations.

We conduct daily Snorkelling surveys to count turtles resting on the reef edge. the average is 10-15 turtles seen per hour. Volunteers also help with injured turtle rescue.
