Rescue wild animals of the Amazon

Program Description

The Wild Animal Rescue Center is located in Eastern Ecuador downstream the River Napo. It’s in the heart of the Amazon Jungle, around eight hours by public bus from Quito or six hours by bus and one by canoe. The work in the rescue center is varied and not always easy: The main task is taking care of the permanent and seasonal animals. All of these animals must be fed, their cages have to be cleaned every day and sometimes you have to take care of sick ones. The volunteer work also includes loading and carrying bananas and other fruits, which are needed for feeding the animals. Please note that this kind of work requires good physical conditions of the volunteers. The willingness of the volunteers to work is the most important source of the center’s income. Guided tours through the Amazon Jungle Rescue Center are very important, because it is an opportunity to tell tourists about the local animals, the projects and how they can help conserve the forest. This is also a part of the volunteer work.

Sometimes you will also need to comply with other activities such as planting, making inspection rounds and translating in guided rainforest tours. Furthermore you can be charged with administrative work.
