Cultural Exchange and Work with Children

Program Description

Volunteers for Peace has continued our affiliation and support of the Institution Mixte du Progres primary school that is located in Desab, Haiti. Located in a rural area around one hour from Port au Prince, this school has 244 children aged 5-12. School instructors and directors are thrilled with the cultural exchanged afforded by volunteers and to help advance numerous projects that will promote the school. Meg Brook, the VFP Executive Director, is leading this project and has focused extensively on engaging with the community.

As a volunteer with this program, you will aid teachers and participate in cultural exchanges and classroom activities. Play games with the children and help to instruct sports as a part of your duties. Afternoons are spent building chairs, tables, and desks for the children. Community members and students will assist as you improve the school by repairing earthquake damage, garden, paint murals, and repaint chalkboards.
