Boys Town Ragama - Sri Lanka

Program Description

Rev. Brother Noel heads this Roman Catholic Center. It was established in 1960 and employs 40 teachers and instructors who teach in five locations around the country. The Center at Ragama serves as the headquarters. Buddhist and Catholic children are helped at these centers and all of the branches are open to people of all religions. One of the centers, called Boy’s Town, is built in the beautiful hill country of Nuwara Eliya. It is surrounded by picturesque Ceylon tea plantations.

Children are trained in technology and animal husbandry in order to advance their future career prospects. They are sent to Boys’ Town for four months before returning to Ragama Center. If any of the boys are orphans or without a living place, then they have the option of living more permanently at residential facilities. Boys are provided with personal training machines and whatever income is produced goes to the maintenance of the institution. They learn how to weld and other valuable skills. Some of the money is deposited in bank accounts to be held in trust for them. Many of these youths were saved through this institution and given a chance at a successful life.
