Blue Ventures Lionfish Culling Project in Belize

Program Description

The lionfish has continued to expand since the first documented incursion in the 1980s in Florida. They are now found increasingly in Belize, especially since 2008. Lionfish have no predators to monitor their growth and possess voracious appetites. They are a large threat to the Caribbean coral reef. Volunteers will help to monitor the invasion of lionfish in the Bacalar Chico Marine Reserve. Scuba dive and help to cull the lionfish.

Our lionfish culling expedition offer volunteers from around the world a unique opportunity to get involved with our marine research and community conservation work.

Expedition volunteers are at the heart of everything we do and we’d love to have you join us!
