SACI's Venice Summer Program

Program Description

Each Summer students have the option to spend 4 weeks on a special program in Venice, a city renowned for both its traditional art treasures and its celebration of innovative contemporary art. Students have the opportunity to visit Venice's many great museums and exhibitions; additionally they will use the city as a classroom to learn the fundamentals of Digital Photography.

Participants will take two classes and earn 3 studio art credits in Digital Photography and 3 art history credits in Contemporary Art. During the summers where the Biennale is in progress, the art history class will focus on Contemporary Art: Biennale and Beyond.

Additionally, students attending the program will visit sites featured in either the Biennale or Architecture Exhibition, as well as field trips to the surrounding islands of Murano and Burano, and to the nearby cities of Padua and Rovereto.

Program highlights

During the program's field trips, students will be able to investigate both the old and the new. They will visit MART, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, designed by architect Mario Botta, as well as the Teatro Olimpico—the first indoor theater in masonry in the world—constructed by Andrea Palladio which dates back to sometime between 1580 and 1585.
