Modern Oceanography Summer Course in Bermuda!

The course runs from June 15 – July 3, 2015

The Modern Observational Oceanography course introduces students to the methods and technologies that have become the staple of modern oceanography. This program provides senior undergraduates and postgraduates with the chance to merge theory and practice while working alongside BIOS faculty.

Topics covered include carbon biogeochemistry; nutrient, dissolved oxygen and salinity determinations; plankton sampling; and physical oceanographic measurements. This is a multidisciplinary course that provides students with introductory lectures and laboratory training in state of the art theory and research methods.

The renowned long-term sampling programs at BIOS will give students an interdisciplinary view of ocean processes, as well as an opportunity to sharpen laboratory skills.

Learn important laboratory and field techniques while collaborating on research projects alongside BIOS faculty
Be immersed in a working observatory used by partners including NOAA and NASA with a field trip to the Tudor Hill Marine Atmospheric Observatory
Introduction to the use of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV), known as gliders
Join this 5-day research cruise on board the R/V Atlantic Explorer, the BIOS research vessel
