Program Description
Learn “Sustainability Through Community” in the Land of Ice and Fire. Solheimar eco-village is a society that is enthusiastic about and dedicated to living sustainably. Volunteers will be able to explore Iceland as they view geothermal hot springs, volcanoes, and glaciers in one of the most environmentally friendly nations on the globe.
CELL is affiliated with the eco-village of Solheimar, population of around 100 individuals. This village is famous for its ecological, artistic, and international vibe. This self-sufficient community helps people with and without special needs work and live in an environment devoted to sustainable environmental practices. Rudolph Steiner impacted this community with his theories and so Solheimar cultivates the environment and the individual and is focused on organic cultivation.
Program highlights
- Learn from leaders in renewable energy and understand hydroelectric and geothermal power plants
- Assimilate some basic Icelandic (old Norse)
- Join in and help with sustainability initiatives in the community

- Iceland has some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world as you get the chance to hike and explore geothermal springs, spectacular fjords with gorgeous beaches, powerful waterfalls, towering mountains, stunning glaciers, and expanses of barren, green, and snow-covered valleys
- Experience historical sites and museums that show the struggles of previous generations all the way through to the twentieth century
- Explore cultural events that include festivals, concerts, theatre productions, and art exhibitions
- Experience the magnificent Northern Lights
