Georgian Foodways: Culinary And Culture Program

Program Description

This interdisciplinary course is specially designed for any college major or discipline. Students wanting to gain academic credit will receive an accredited transcript of 4 credits in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies.

Discover Georgian Heritage
Georgia is a small country, but it has a great variety of culinary traditions, with each region boasting its own specific recipes and dishes. You will learn how diverse culinary cultures have all contributed to food collectively known as 'Georgian'. We will critically examine how Georgian national identity and history are intrinsically connected to its cuisine.

Try Georgian Cuisine
The history and identity of Georgian cuisine is crafted in the tastes, smells, and composition of its dishes. Georgian food contains influences from both Middle Eastern and European culinary traditions, a mix that makes Georgian food so unique! While we cook and eat our meals, we will learn about the specific history associated with each dish, and where its ingredients come from.

Dr. Michael Denner of Stetson University will be hosting this program. Dr. Denner is an expert in his field, as a professor of Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies. Like most who visit the country, Dr. Denner immediately fell in love with Georgia. He is currently collaborating on a Georgian culinary project. Alongside Dr. Denner, NovaMova Language School staff will assist in running the program.
