Using a historical and case study approach the Certificate Program in International Relations & Cultural Diplomacy provides a thorough background in International Relations and Cultural Diplomacy by addressing the most important contemporary international issues while further accentuating the role and potential of cultural diplomacy to strengthen international relations.

The program analyses the practice of Cultural Diplomacy at the multilateral level through examination of specific case studies of international organizations and global governance organizations. This program seeks to facilitate cooperation more effectively at the political, economic and cultural levels with a particular emphasis on cultural diplomacy’s role in global governance.

Program Curriculum, Methodology, & Structure

The Program consists of lectures, seminars, workshops, social activities and special events. This is a two-week program devoted to the study of Cultural Diplomacy and International Relations.

Participants can attend all ICD conferences, events, presentations, and other activities. Lectures and briefings at international and non-governmental organizations as well as educational events, conferences, tours, and meetings with foreign officials supplement classroom lectures and seminars.

Students will engage with specialists in the areas of International Relations & Economics, Culture, Theology, History, Communication, Politics, Human Rights, Peace Building, Multilateral Diplomacy, Conflict Resolution, and Development by meeting with leading experts working in international organizations, embassies, development institutions, religious institutions, research centers, and academic institutions.

Program Locations:

The course will be hosted at a number of leading political, historic, and cultural venues across the city while being primarily based in the ICD House in Berlin.

Program Participants

Interested individuals from across the world, students, young professionals, private sector representatives, civil society practitioners, journalists, artists, academics, diplomatic and governmental officials are welcome to join this program.

All courses will be taught in English. And so a proficiency in English is also a prerequisite for application; for non-native English Speakers Studies in English or extensive working experience in English are sufficient as proof of the English level. Individuals studying for the Certificate Program in Cultural Diplomacy will represent a diverse range of cultural and academic backgrounds and are are required to have an undergraduate degree of/ or to be currently enrolled to any field of Academic study and/or to have a proven work experience and position in related fields.

Students will be presented with a Certificate of Completion signed by members of the ICD's Advisory Board upon successful completion of the program and submission of a final paper to the course.
