Honduras La Ceiba Pre-Med and Pre-Nurse Programs

Two public hospitals serve poverty-stricken community members in La Ceiba. This is a great volunteer opportunity for undergraduates who are interested in embarking on a healthcare career. Volunteers will be able to follow doctors and nurses as they go on their daily routine. You will be assigned tasks based on background and Spanish fluency.

Potential placements include but are not limited to:

• Help with non-invasive procedures such as taking vital signs, blood pressure, and the weight and height of patients
• Observe wound cleaning, suture removal, and abscess drainage
• Shadow doctors on rounds and during consultations

This is a perfect opportunity for pre-med and pre-nursing students to hone their skills as they add to their resume. Volunteers will also be able to improve their Spanish speaking abilities. If you are not able to converse with colleagues in Spanish for 8 hours each day, then you might want to consider enrolling in our language immersion course. We have translators on staff for $15 a day. Volunteers must bring scrubs, gloves, masks, and a stethoscope.

*Pre-medical and medical volunteers must pay a $50 donation fee directly to the hospital. This fee is collected locally and required for all health related placements.
