Job Title: Domiciliary Care Worker
Responsible To: Care Manager
Job Profile: You will play a key role in providing care and support to individuals within their own home as specified in a written, individualised care plan. You are accountable to the Branch Manager and will work under the guidance of relevant professionals when required.
You will ensure that the service is provided at all times, in a way that meets the individual care needs of a service user, whilst respecting their rights, privacy and dignity. Your aim is to sustain and improve an individual’s independence, ensuring they are involved and supported to assist in their own care activities wherever possible.
The care you provide to each service user will include care that would reasonably be provided by the service user’s family and friends, but will not include care tasks that would normally be provided by a qualified nurse.
You are required to work as part of a team and to represent the organisation in a friendly, efficient and professional manner. You must complete the care activities assigned to you using the best of your abilities and ensure that service users receive safe, individualised and excellent standards of care, at all times, whilst maintaining confidentiality.
You are expected to assist in your own personal development and are required to refresh your learning, on an annual basis, through the use of in-house training. There is also available other training to upskill and move forward within this area if you so wish
Key Responsibilities:
1. To assist service users who need help with getting up in the morning and going to bed at night, to include dressing, undressing, washing, bathing, showering and / or use of the toilet.
2. To help service users with mobility problems and other physical disabilities, to include incontinence and the use and care of aids and personal equipment.
3. To care for service users who are temporarily sick and needing, for example, minor dressings, bed nursing and / or help with feeding etc.
4. To help care for service users who are terminally ill or dying.
5. To help in the promotion of mental and physical activity of service users through talking to them, taking them out, sharing with them in activities such as reading, writing, hobbies and recreations.
6. To make and change beds, to include tidying rooms, light cleaning duties and emptying commodes.
7. To inspect, launder and if able to, mend, service user clothing.
8. To assist service users in maintaining a well-balanced diet, to include setting tables or trays, preparing and serving light meals / snacks, feeding service users (if required), washing and tidying up.
9. To answer emergency bells, the door, the telephone and /or greet visitors upon arrival.
10. To maintain accurate records of the care provided, to include the reading and writing of reports, attending staff and service user meetings and participating in relevant training activities as directed.
11. To perform such other duties as may reasonably be required.
12. To comply with the organisations policies, procedures and guidelines at all times.
13. To report to the Care Manager any significant changes in the health or circumstances of a service user.
14. To encourage service users to remain as independent as possible.
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
Experience this is not essential as full training will be given:
o A minimum of 6 months experience in a health care profession or setting (desirable) if no experience keenness to train and learn, free training offered
o Experience of working with varying service user groups (desirable).
o Qualifications: NVQ level 2 or 3 in a health related topic (desirable)).
o Communication: The ability to communicate with people at all levels (essential).
o The ability to communicate clearly in English (essential).
o You will be given a mobile phone for use at work, but your own phone maybe be used for CRG in contacting you !
Organisation:
o The ability to manage own time, prioritise workloads, remain calm and think logically with regards to problems (desirable)
Administration:
o Adherence to legislation, specifically those procedures and / or policies as specified by trade and regulatory bodies (essential).
o The ability to maintain accurate records to convey factual information to other persons involved in the provision of care to service users (essential).
o Team Work
o The ability to work efficiently and effectively as part of a team (essential)
Personal Qualities:
o Self-motivated, organised, flexible, caring, an active team player, good communicator and sensitive to the needs and preferences of others (essential).
Miscellaneous:
o Willingness to travel around your given area and surrounding areas as a walker(essential)
o Driving licence and use of a car (for drivers)
o DBS is required if on update system and is covering adults and children this can be used, if not on update system or you do not have a DBS we would require you to apply cost of £55 which can be paid through us or in some cases can be taken out of your first 2 weeks wages.
In line with the requirements of the ‘Data Protection Act 1998’ and subsequent amendments, you must respect the confidentiality of service users and any information you are privy to or learn during the course of your registration with the organisation. You must also make yourself aware of your responsibilities under the ‘Health & Safety at Work Act 1974’ and subsequent amendments, which can be found within your Staff Handbook.
Cerințe
The role will involve: - Visiting clients living in their own homes to provide care /support.
Duties will include:-
Personal care including Toilet, bathing, washing etc.
Meal preparation
Assistance with medication
Light domestic tasks
Shopping tasks
The visits to the clients will vary in duration depending on the client’s assessment of need.
Some calls can be a short as 30 minutes, some calls will be longer.
You will also be paid for the time you travel between the visits
The visits will be mornings, lunches, teas and beds
Calls can start as early as 7am in a morning and the bed calls could run on till 10/1030pm alternate weekends is a requirement
