Job Description
Emerson Croft is looking for a Writer to help grow a stealth-mode AI startup by joining their remote team.
This startup has team members from all over the world but works almost exclusively in English. They need a native-level English speaker to produce a voice for internal documentation that’s not only consistent, but also lively, engaging, and capable of making important knowledge stick. You’ll need to find a balance between functional and delightful in a wide variety of areas — your role touches every non-technical function in the company.
The perfect candidate demonstrates both a high level of English competence, and the creativity to apply it in novel ways. You should be able to move seamlessly between short-term tasks and long-term planning. Beyond that, you should be unafraid of unprecedented operations challenges, ready to take charge of documentation, and able to turn problems into growth opportunities.
You’ll be expected to take sole responsibility for advanced documentation, contribute ideas at a high level, and handle a wide variety of tasks as needed. You will:
1. Conduct thorough online research
2. Create clean, concise technical documentation and specifications
3. Create, unify, and promote documentation best practices throughout the company
4. Maintain existing technical documents and keep them up-to date
5. Implement changes and improvements to documentation processes
6. Lead a team of writers responsible for product development and documentation
7. Assist in developing training materials

1. BA in a writing-related field (Technical Communication, English, Journalism, Instructional Design, etc.)
2. 1 or more years of experience writing technical software documentation and/or non-fiction articles
3. Proficient written and spoken English
4. Experience creating and copy-editing internal documents
5. Knack for being creative, innovative, proactive and structured in the tasks you own
6. High attention to detail
Nice to haves:
1. Experience at a growth-stage tech company (web/app/mobile/e-commerce projects)
2. An accessible online portfolio of your work
3. Experience as a team leader
4. Technical writing certification or vocational training in writing
