Peru Internship Program

Program Description

Graduate students will be immersed in the fascinating culture of Iquitos in Peru while gaining real world professional experience. This program was launched in 2009 in order to promote teaching English as a second language, regional cultural studies, and service learning along with building on international networks and relationships and broadening student interest. This was developed for Master’s degree students in Sociocultural and International Development Education Studies (SIDES) as well as Foreign Language, TESOL, and ESOL Education programs. This is an excellent opportunity for students to learn in the field and classroom while broadening their repertoire of skills.

Program highlights

Prior to departing for Iquitos, interns will be placement in a position. Our Internship Supervisor is on-site and will collect evaluations and timesheets while providing written feedback to participants weekly. Students will live in a homestay with a local family. These families have all been previously screened by the Florida State Faculty Program Leader and Housing Coordinator. This is a great experience for participants to be introduced to a wide range of career opportunities. Interns will gain noteworthy employment references, make valuable connections, and earn hands on work experience.
