If you are a traveling family, then the summer season might be your best chance to get away. If you are single or a couple, then the hot weather might be begging you to take a break from your life to find other adventures. Summer brings out sunshine, longer days, and a thirst for exploration.
Each of the following countries or regions has something interesting to offer during the summer months, so take your time and enjoy planning your next city break. It may be just turning August, but there are still plenty days of left as you enjoy the dog days of summer while cooling down at the beach. Or head somewhere in the Southern Hemisphere and return to the cool weather as you take a break from the scorching hot summer days. Book your last minute getaway now!
Croatia is a coastal nation that overlooks the Adriatic Sea. Scenic medieval walled cities invite travelers to tour the winding roads and paths before finding a local café. Take a drive past dramatic mountains and the sprawling coastline, and maybe even end up in Korčula, the birthplace of Marco Polo. Make sure to visit Split, Hvar, Dubrovnik, and Rovinj during your time in this fabulous country.
While the Scandinavian region is quite chilly most of the year, the summer months of June, July, and August are a wonderfully warm time to visit. See Bergen, Norway and leisurely enjoy the Hanseatic Wharf after a day of enjoying the fjords. Also make a trip to Gothenburg, Sweden, and have a blast eating gourmet food and experiencing the Gothenburg Culture Festival.
June-August is the winter season in New Zealand, which makes this a great summer destination for those in the Northern Hemisphere who miss cool weather. If you are craving snow, you might want to drive to Lindis Pass and have a Lord of the Rings moment. For those avid skiers and snowboarders, head to Tongariro National Park and zoom down the slopes of Mt. Ruapehu.
While this is the peak season for trekking the Inca Trail, there is still a good reason to go. This is the dry season for the highlands and a perfect time to visit Machu Picchu. If you are fan of fog, clouds, and mist, then the coastal areas, including Lima, tend to have this atmospheric weather during what is their winter season. June-August is also a good time to visit the Amazon.
Greece is a colorful country where you are sure to find great food, friendly folk, and some ancient ruins. The summer is a great time to visit for the sunny weather and the opportunities to island hop. Make sure to see Mykonos for the party scene and then go on to Santorini to spend your days enjoying the black sand beach and watching the sunset from Oia.
Bulgaria, the Caribbean, Turkey, and Fiji all have plenty of sunshine and beach to offer, so do not overlook those locations as summer visits.
