Volunteer in a Children's Home/Orphanage

Program Description

Volunteers will be placed around the town of San Ramon in small children’s homes and orphanages. The government and local communities sponsor these institutions. The staff are called Tias (aunties) and they manage the daily routine of the children as well as care for them. Twice a week, a psychologist visits the children and a tutor is able to come each day. Some of these children at not orphans in the traditional sense, but they may have been abused or abandoned by family members. Social workers will then step in and remove these children temporarily while working with parents to improve home life.
