Shark Conservation in Fiji

Program Description

Volunteers of this project will be based in Pacific Harbour, which is on the south coast of Viti Levu, Fiji’s central island. As a volunteer, you will be focused on pioneering the research on shark preservation, raising awareness for conservation initiatives, and working on the rehabilitation of the mangrove environment.

The Fiji Shark Conservation and Awareness Project, as well as two internationally renowned shark research scientists, will be working with volunteers. Data collected through your efforts will be shared locally and internationally in order to raise public awareness of these misunderstood animals.

All volunteers will go through a certified PADI dive course and will receive a Project Aware Shark Specialty Certificate. Daily tasks including tagging shark pups, setting underwater cameras, developing a local education programme, and data entry and analysis.
