Sea Turtle Conservation in Sri Lanka

Program Description

Volunteer with this organization and help the turtle population of Kosgoda, Sri Lanka. This region was heavily affected by the Boxing Day Tsunami with many people’s livelihoods lost alongside much of the beach area. There was a massive decline in tourism and fishing was compromised. Many locals turned to the sale of turtle eggs to make an income. This is what established the organization that you would volunteer with, an attempt to preserve the habitat and development of the local turtles.

You would be a part of conserving and monitoring nesting sites. The organization also promotes a hatchery that collects rescued eggs that will hatch and be released into the sea.
