Sea Turtle Conservation in Costa Rica

Program Description

Become a volunteer with sea turtles in Central America and help to protect this species through rehabilitation, rescue efforts, research, and conservation. We partnered with a local organization that is boasts an extensive network of educators, community leaders, managers, and biologists who are determined to help recovery and sustainably manage sea turtle populations. Situated in a remote region on the coast of the Caribbean, the Nesting Beach Project hosts Green Sea, Hawksbill, and Leatherback turtles who lay their eggs in this area.

Poachers would remove 100% of the eggs laid by the beautiful turtles without the interference and help of this organization. We are looking for volunteers to conduct nightly patrols of the beaches to help find recent turtles who have come ashore or nests. We relocate the eggs to the organizations’ hatchery to protect them until they are ready to hatch. We then safely return the baby turtles to the ocean. Traverse the breathtaking Tortuguero canals by boat to access the project and enjoy being surrounded by nature.
