In this medical elective, you will be in the unique position to empower and inspire principle caretakers of children with autism in Hyderabad. In close collaboration with our partner organisation, you will support parents, teachers and the children themselves, to make a positive impact on their quality of life.
The lack of structured institutional support has let to a deficiency of disability assistance in India. Parents and teachers are often helpless, due to this lack of information and support. As a result, treatable symptoms such as speech impairments are not treated appropriately. Qualified speech therapists often leave the country for opportunities overseas, and remaining staff must-do with outdated syllabi and training methods.
As a speech therapist volunteer, you will share your skills and provide support to staff, parents and teachers, facilitating their understanding of the practice. You will get the chance to be involved in workshop and training development and implementation, as well as hands-on demonstrations. Coordinating training for parents and teachers will ensure that children receive the best support at home and in the classroom.
By sharing and applying the knowledge you have gained through your degree and education, you will be contributing towards improving the care and support that staff and parents provide to the children, making a direct impact on their well-being.
