VIN is presenting a Public Health Program for volunteers, animal lovers, students, and health professionals who are interested in developing areas of Nepal. Volunteers will be able to take part in a variety of projects that include Waste Management, Care for the Elderly, Sanitation & Hygiene Education, Health, and Public Health & Medical Care.
Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world and faces political obstacles and struggles. There are many challenges to public health in this region. The government does not provide enough facilities to support rural communities and promote health. Illiteracy is a major issue that does not allow people to adjust their hygiene, sanitation and health practices. Illiterate individuals are unaware of the risks facing their health and the methods to minimise these risks.
We focus on health and building up infrastructure by supporting the local health clinic at Jitpurphedi. We have staffed a doctor and nurse and launched education initiatives to the community. We promote health camps to educate children in schools and to screen for eye, parasite, and dental problems. Our Construction and Manual Work Project has helped to construct around 300 toilets in the area and we are further committed to another 300 in order to increase the hygiene and health through eradicating open defecation.
