This elective will give you extensive practical experience, and offers a great opportunity for real-life application on what you have learnt in the classroom. As an occupational therapist volunteer, you'll get the unique opportunity to work in a learning centre for children with autism, empowering them to live a more independent and purposeful life.
Disabled children and their families in India face many challenges due to the lack of institutional support. Therefore, inspiring change makers such as our partner organisation, are advocating for the rights and access to treatment for disabled individuals. Recently, our partner organisation has opened a new learning centre for children with autism. impacting the lives of 80 children.
As part of your elective, you will have the chance to work with the children directly, assisting with therapy and assessments. As an integral part of the local team, you will gain hands-on experience and learn from experienced staff. You will also be involved in the conceptualisation and implementation of workshops and training sessions for parents, including the preparation of therapy activities that they can take home.
In this engaging role, your knowledge, skills and your compassion will add value to our partner's efforts in supporting the 80 children they work with.
