As a childcare volunteer in Ghana, you will make a significant contribution to the daily lives of children in rural community schools, rehabilitation and care centers etc. in Ghana.
SMWEF volunteer programs provides international volunteers an opportunity and a great platform to improve on the lives of young children in rural poor communities in Ghana. Volunteers will work alongside with local staff as you provide care and needed attention to the less privileged children. Volunteers will also help with the general childcare and daily routines/operations when volunteer with children in Ghana.
Volunteers will introduce lessons to children through play, organize music and dance lessons, indoor and outdoor games, serving and feeding of children, helping children with their homework and class exercises, watching educative videos with children. Our childcare, volunteer program in Ghana seeks to address the numerous problems that many children without proper education, healthcare, food, love and attention gave as a result of their parents not being there for them.
Underprivileged everywhere need care, attention and love. Volunteers will work in rural and semi-rural communities where you will teach, love, and care for less privileged children. You will help design and execute effective teaching programs, activities and events to inspire and develop the children’s talents and abilities through human interaction and care. This program will also give you an opportunity to explore and understand the Ghanaian people and their culture through the eyes of the people you are shaping.
This project focuses on early childhood development and learning through play. Your work will help us achieve our goals of promoting literacy, numeracy and hygiene practices among Ghanaian children. You will live with the local host family, this will be your home away from home and you will learn about Ghanaian hospitality, culture and traditions.
This project is ideal for anyone who wants to help where it is really needed and improve the lives of young children. You will gain practical experience of working in childcare which could help your future career. It is also the perfect project to help you develop important life skills such as teamwork, leadership and planning. Our childcare project in Ghana runs throughout the year and you can join at any time from a minimum of 2 weeks.
However, we do encourage you to stay longer so you can have a bigger impact on the children you work with.
As a volunteer working in Ghana on childcare projects, you will support local teachers and caregivers and have SMWEF staff members close to hand to help guide you along. This project is also perfect for seniors, groups, families, qualified professionals, etc. with your skills backing up our ongoing efforts, we can make an even bigger difference together. Volunteers will be placed in a kindergarten, day care center, rehabilitation centers and etc.
However, you won’t be on your own. Your main role is to support local teachers and caregivers with early childhood development work. A truly rewarding and life changing experience working in local schools, orphanages and underprivileged children’s center.
You will also provide much needed assistance in caring for those who are in need of support and care;
Volunteer tasks include:
1. improving literacy
2. playing games
3. offering support and quality time with individuals
4. introducing lessons to children through play
5. helping with cooking meals and serving/feeing etc.
Qualifications
No qualifications required to participate on this project, but volunteers should have passion, affection and care for children. Volunteers must bring bundles of energy to share their time and space as well as to show their compassion, patience and flexibility while participating on this program.
Typical day
Volunteers will work in the morning or afternoon for a period of 4-7 hours a day.
8:00am volunteers arrive at the project site and start work on the project. Please Note: working time and everyday work depends on the project placement of volunteers.
12:00pm volunteers for a lunch break
2:30pm Work at the project usually ends for the day and volunteers are free to explore and shop at the local market, visit other important places in the community.
Free time activities
Volunteers who wish to make travel arrangements once in Ghana, our local team is always happy to provide advice and assistance. Volunteers can fill their time free time in Ghana visiting the many historical sites, beautiful beaches, dining on incredible food providers or even, as interns have the weekends free, taking a day trip to Cape Coast.
Itinerary Information and Basic Inclusions
As you land in Accra, you will be picked up by one of our team members upon arrival. Your responsible will then escort you to a taxi, where you will be brought to our volunteer accommodation. Once there, you will be provided 3 meals a day, electricity, running water, and a SIM card for data.
