Descriere program
The course delves into a unique approach to learning. Combining the development of literary understanding with an exploration of the craft of acting, this course was created for students who have previously taken drama courses. Participants should be interested in focusing their craft through the intensive study of Irish drama. The Final evening is a showcase of selected scenes from the various plays studied.
Our extensive cultural activities include regular traditional music sessions, explorations of The James Joyce Centre, The Irish Writer’s Museum, The National Gallery, The Irish Museum of Modern Art, visits to the Book of Kells, and regular theatre excursions.
Week 1: Lectures are focused on the work of Brian Friel and Samuel Beckett. Studies focus on finding and developing the presence of the actor through breath control and improvisation.
Week 2: Lectures are focused on the work of Sean O’Casey and John Millington Synge. This week covers practical acting lessons.
Week 3: Lectures include contemporary Irish playwrights: Martin McDonagh, Billy Roche, Frank McGuinness, Conor McPherson, and Marina Carr. Rehearsals concentrate on an Irish theatre scene for final showcase.
